Since Launch Sony have released a few updates for this player that it will download automatically when you connect it to the internet. Thankfully this brings the player up to Profile 2.0 (BD Live functionality) and makes the player as up to date as can possibly be.

It’s been the case for quite some time that the Sony Playstation 3, although launched as a games console, has also been about the best value BluRay player on the market. However with the launch and recent updates to this new player from Sony (BDP-S350) we have finally got a contender! As you can see above these players can be bought for well under £200 now (which is closing on half the price of the PS3).

Another thing going for this player is the unit size; for whatever reason most BluRay players have been pretty massive, taking up a lot of space on your TV stand, well this player is pretty much half the size of most of the other players around at only 17” Wide, 8.75” deep & 2.38” high, making for a much smarter and more efficient player.

Most testing that has been done on the player has been unable to produce fault with the awesome picture quality and fantastic sound output of this unit on both test platforms and an array of films. For quite some time BluRay players have been very up and down, some with poor sound but great video, some with great video but poor build quality, others with no upgrade facility, however the Sony BDP S350 is the first unit we have seen to get just about everything right!

At Last!

I have wanted a BluRay player for ages now but couldn’t justify paying £300+ for one, or even the £20 per film disc! Finally now they have got it right; I think this player is great value; I got mine for £169.99 and am thrilled! Even the films have come down in price now (I got one from play.com the other day for £9.89!) Thumbs up to the S350 and BluRay! By Jack Timothy
